Many acts of violence take place in just a few seconds. However, those few seconds can change lives forever.
A 19-year-old Dahlonega man is dead and another young man is in custody after a fight at an Applebee’s restaurant in Dawson County on July 25. According to the teen’s friend who was with him, the two reportedly got into a fight over social media shortly before the other young man showed up with two other people at the restaurant.
The teenaged victim reportedly suffered a brain injury after being punched
According to the local sheriff’s office, they were called to the scene by witnesses who said that someone had been knocked out in a fight. They said that the teen was punched in the face, causing him to fall and hit his head on the floor.
He was taken to the hospital with what turned out to be a brain injury as well as a serious cut on his face. He died two days later.
Charges likely to be upgraded, others may be arrested
The 20-year-old man whom investigators say threw the fatal punch was charged with aggravated assault and battery. However, those charges are expected to be upgraded in light of the death. According to the sheriff, the investigation is ongoing, and others who were present at the fight may also face charges. The teen’s father, who noted that his son had just turned 19 the day before the incident, said, “There were two other people in the truck, I think they’re just as responsible….”
Anger, alcohol, drugs, mental health issues and any number of other things can lead people to commit violent acts. Regardless of a person’s intent, the results can be catastrophic. If a loved one is facing felony charges for a violent crime, it’s imperative that you seek legal guidance to protect their rights, ensure that the facts come out and help protect their future.
